Rock Creek Baptism Platform, as seen from west bank

Mass baptism occurred in Rock Creek. In some churches, white ministers refused to take black infants in their arms to administer baptism. The baptism of many African Americans took place in nearby Rock Creek, a practice that continued well into the twentieth century.

Also called Dumbarton Bridge, the bridge was designed by Glenn Brown.  Construction began in March 1914 and completed in December 1915.
